MISSION


98WEEKS RESEARCH PROJECT
98weeks research project is an artists organization and a Project Space (since November 2009) founded by Marwa Arsanios and Mirene Arsanios on October 31, 2007. It is conceived as a research project that shifts its attention to a new topic every 98 weeks. Focusing on artistic research, combining both theoretical and practical forms of inquiry, 98weeks’ projects take multiple forms such as workshops, community projects, seminars, reading groups, publications and exhibitions.

98WEEKS PROJECT SPACE

Two years after its founding, 98weeks has opened a non-profit project space in the Mar Mkhael area of Beirut.The project space is a 50 sq meter storefront in Mar Mkhael distributed over 2 floors
. It hosts a library presenting 98research archives as well as an archive on historical and contemporary publications, regular talks as well as a monthly screening of videos and films programmed by guests curators and artists. As a research platform, 98weeks projects space welcomes artists and cultural practitioners to present their work and / or test out ideas for projects.  It enhances self-organized initiatives and the sharing of artistic resources.


ABOUT US
MIRENE/Co-founder  
Mirene lives in Beirut. She is the co-founder of 98weeks project space and teaches at the American University of Beirut’s Fine Arts department. Her writings have been published in Bidoun, Flash Art International, Cura Magazine, The Rumpus and Ibraaz. She writes poetry on this blog http://wantedrouge.tumblr.com/.


MARWA/Co- founder 
Lives and works in Beirut, Lebanon.
Marwa obtained her MFA from Wimbledon College of Art, University of the Arts, London (2007. She has exhibited in London, Beirut, Athens, Oxford, Lisboa, Santiago de Chile, Rome and Damascus. Her work was shown at Art Dubai in the Bidoun Lounge (Art Park), at the Forum expanded of the Berlinale 2010, at the Homeworks V forum in Beirut, at Tokyo Wonder Site in Tokyo and most recently at the Istanbul Biennale. Her videos were screened in several festivals and events such as the e-flux storefront in New York, and most recently at the Centre Pompidou in Paris.
She has been granted the artist’s residency at the Arab Image Foundation for 2009, the research residency at the Tokyo Wonder Site in 2010 and the 3 months residency at the Jan Van Eyck academie for 2011. Marwa is also a part-time lecturer in different Universities

ZEINA/Space and Communication Manager
Zeina Assaf is an arts administrator, independent curator and artist living and working in Beirut, Lebanon. Zeina has curated emerging to mid-career artists since 2006 at both non-profit and commercial spaces such as Cuchifritos Gallery/Project Space, artHARLEM, and NY Studio Gallery.
